[Peter's been keeping out of the way and to himself for the most part after port ended. It was harder to want to pick himself up and make himself do stuff when he didn't really have anything to do here, and the depression and isolation he felt were hard to shake off.
Talking to Bond had helped, and he was trying, really trying to just suck it up and act like things were fine, which was why he'd headed up to the deck instead of just staying cooped up in his room.
It's also why he hesitates for a long moment before approaching Cass, because he's very intimately aware of what despair feels like and how desperately she might need to be alone right now. But Cass was the person who'd reached out to him during that flood where everything had been horrible, and so he cautiously approached her, keeping his hands shoved in his jacket pockets.]
