A lot of people say that. Claire used to say that. And... you know, I wanted her to keep thinking it so much that I stopped saying anything about the stuff that wasn't so good. Andrea, too.

[Her eyes drop the second she sees that uncertainty, instinctively giving him privacy. It makes it harder to follow him when he speaks, but his comfort is more important than hers right now.]

Don't be jealous. It's bad, sometimes. I see people... hate me, fear me, want me, the things... they should keep to themselves. Makes me sick, sometimes. Hurts, to tell someone what you are... and see them reject it. To judge, but never able to change.

[He smiles at that, gratefully, even if she can't see it, and even if the little voice in his head rumbles dubiously at the words. It's like he told her: it's upsetting to hear he's not good enough, but way harder to believe the ones who think he is.]
