[Hello there Barge. Cass is in the library, sitting on the floor with a bunch of books spread around her. When she turns the feed on, she's got a copy of A Tale of Two Cities in her hands. She'd recognized it as the book she had tried to read when she had stayed at Tim's apartment, but it was only the spine and the cover she knew. She still has no idea what it's about, or even what it is.]

Um. Don't know lots of things. Trying to learn. Reading, how to... use comm. But...

[Well, staring at words and trying to will them into making sense? It's not very effective.]

Need help. Had offers. Cashing in. [It's possible she got that phrase from Dean.] In library. Anyone can come, need... lots of help.

Four flights of stairs? I could crawl. [ Challengeacceptedstartingnow and she races out the door. She'll be sliding down the railing on those stairs. ]

[Cass is waiting in the hallway to watch Steph's approach first hand. She hasn't been timing her, doesn't even have anything to time her with, but challenges are always fun.]

Better hurry! Almost- out of time!

[ There's no response, not until she bursts out the stairwell door three minutes later, races down the hall, and slides to a stop just inside the library. She has to stop and apologize to a librarian before turning to look for Cass. ]

[Okay, that was very impressive. Cass is clapping for you, Steph. Quietly of course, this is a library.]

You pass. Gold medal.

Yeah! [ Steph cheers under her breath, waving her hands like she's waving to a crowd of adoring fans. ]

So, where should we start?

Something easy? Don't... really know.

[ichoosefight]

Well, let's start with... [ She looks around the pile, but doesn't see what she's looking for. ]

Agatha Christie? She wrote detective stories.

[hellofist]

[What Steph wants isn't there, so her mess is pretty much instantly forgotten. She turns to regard the rest of the library, frowning at it like it's done something wrong to her.]

Good. Will help you look.

[Which pretty much just means she'll go with Steph while she looks. It's not like she can just glance over the spines of the books to see what's what.]

[ Steph glances back at the pile only briefly before moving on towards the Fiction-Mystery section of the library. She's been on the barge long enough to know where it is simply from hiding out here. 'Christie' doesn't take long to find, and there's a long row of books by her. Even as thin as they are they take up a lot of space. Steph grabs one at random. It's 'Cat Among the Pigeons'. ]

Here we go. Let's find a place to sit. [ There are comfortable chairs near the front and back of the library that will be better than sitting on the floor. ]

[Cass threads her fingers through Steph's and tugs her along to the back of the library, ignores the chairs there in favor of the little couch instead. It'll be easier to look over Steph's shoulder this way. Plus, Steph is her safety line these days. She likes to be close.]

Perfect. [ Steph settles in and opens the book to the first page. ]

Have you gotten letters yet? [ She points to the first one on the page - P, in Prologue. ]

Most. Forget some. Know sounds of most.

[When Steph points, Cass leans closer for a better look.]

Mm.... P?

Yup! And the next ones?

[hellofist]

[It takes her awhile. She stumbles over the R and the U, but eventually she has told Steph all of the letters. Once she's done, she doesn't look too pleased. This is a long word and she knows what's next.]

Sound it out?

Give it a try? The G is going to make a 'guh' sound. [ Prologue is a hard word though. Crazy French words. ]

[Why couldn't you have started her out on something easier, Steph? Now you have to sit there and listen to her make funny noises.]

Pp- ro... Pro... [That's about the only part of that word. At least O has the sense to sound like what it's called.]

[ Steph waits a moment to give her a full chance to try it, then butts in to help. ] Prologue. It's a tough one. The next one is easier. Do you know what 'prologue' means? [ It's a pretty specialized word, she wouldn't be at all surprised if Cass has never heard it. ]

Nope.

[She doesn't look ashamed about it, at least. That's just a dumb word, so she's not giving it much credit.]

It means, uh... [ It means that she wishes she had a dictionary, but a basic definition will work so oh well. ]

The part that comes before the beginning. It's like a bonus chapter before the rest of the story starts.

But... Why? Why not, part of whole thing?

[This makes no sense, Steph. Who invented bonus chapters anyway?]

I guess in case you want to skip it. Epilogues are the same way.

[ She shrugs, then points to the first word of the opening title. It's 'Summer'. ]

[Sorry Steph, Cass is still stuck on this whole prologue thing.]

Skip? It's part... of the story. Shouldn't skip.

You'd think, but people can be pretty lazy about reading. [ She'll just leave her finger on that word, then. ]
