[Hello there Barge. Cass is in the library, sitting on the floor with a bunch of books spread around her. When she turns the feed on, she's got a copy of A Tale of Two Cities in her hands. She'd recognized it as the book she had tried to read when she had stayed at Tim's apartment, but it was only the spine and the cover she knew. She still has no idea what it's about, or even what it is.]

Um. Don't know lots of things. Trying to learn. Reading, how to... use comm. But...

[Well, staring at words and trying to will them into making sense? It's not very effective.]

Need help. Had offers. Cashing in. [It's possible she got that phrase from Dean.] In library. Anyone can come, need... lots of help.

[Cass holds the book up and points to the word that's been giving her trouble. It's "there". It's also the third word on the first page of the book. Clearly, she hasn't gotten far at all.]

"There". The ones with the silent letters always got me, too. Especially when I started learning Spanish. You know all the phonetic sounds, right?

[hellofist]

[She makes the th sound quietly, then frowns in annoyance.]

Dumb. Should sound like... how it looks.

[At the question, she starts to nod, but then frowns all over again.]

What's that?

[silvestris]

The whole language is ridiculous.

[Selina tells her the word, but this isn't going to get Cass any closer to learning, she thinks. And Selina doesn't have much of an instinct for teaching, but she might be able to come up with something.]

What's your native language?

[hellofist]

[Oh, right. Selina doesn't know, yet.]

Um. Bodies. Didn't learn speaking, learned... body language.

[silvestris]

Really. [That's intimidating, actually.] Well, it's a lot more honest than speech is.

[hellofist]

[This is usually when people run away, stay and then run away later when they can't deal with someone who always knows what they're thinking, or just... figure out it's not her fault and stick with it. Cass won't begrudge her any of it, especially not someone like Selina, a lone wolf. Independent.]

Yes. Can't lie to me. But... I can keep secrets.

[silvestris]

[It will take some getting used to. Some adjusting. Selina lies about who she is, but Cass knows that secret already. The rest is a matter of Selina lying to herself, which a lot of people call her on, and none of them have luck with it. What's so different with this girl, she wonders? The end result is the same.]

You must have one hell of a chest of blackmail opportunities.

Wouldn't use. Cheating. Just use... to understand. Talk.

You know I'll probably see that in action someday. [She won't pretend that she doesn't, say, claw people in the face if she likes them.]

Never met you, before now. Just... saw recordings. But no. You're strong.

What do I do? I heard I was a thief.

Yes. Helped Batman, sometimes. Mostly self. Motives... almost always good. Help animals, cats.

She sounds more noble than I am.

Nothing, now. I gave myself justice, I helped Batman get his name back...now I'm here.

[hellofist]

Not entirely bad, being here. Is it?

[No, it's not all bad, but she's more focused on that other question.]

I was mad at him, so I helped to...defame him. Make people think he was killing civilians.

He killed me. It seemed only fair, since no one else was going to make him pay.
