[There's a can of tinned peaches left on her doorstep, the label has been creatively torn to resemble a bat since the whole. Embargo on drawing thing is still in full swing.]
[Typically Cass is the type to share when things are scarce, but this is clearly meant just for her. She hoards it for herself, scaling her building and finding herself a nice shaded corner and using one of the prongs of her batgrapple to pry the lid open.
[He's coming back from a patrol - his last of the night - when she calls to him from the rooftop. Rather than reply verbally he waves and with a brief, considering glance at the building takes a running jump to scale it. He moves with quick efficiency and reaches the top in scarce seconds.]
Cass. Hey.
[His tone is full of warmth and he smiles when he sees the tin - glad to see she got it. He holds out an arm for a hug, knowing she'll read the intent of it in his body language and leaving it up to her to accept it. Steve doesn't touch people voluntarily very often ouside of sparring.]
[ There was no Batgirl in the room ten seconds ago. There is now +1 Cass cuddling him. What do? ]
[ Softly, ] Hey sweetheart. You're tired huh?
[ He puts a blanket over her, with care, rubbing his eyes with his other hand. It's almost morning, he judges about two or three hours left, and anyway he's getting used to needing less sleep. ]
[She comes in by the window, with so little sound he almost missed it. Steve is standing beside it, leaning against it and looking out at the billboard in a silent vigil when she eases it open and creeps inside. She flashes a sleepy-looking smile and presses a finger to her lips as she makes a beeline for Bucky's bed and curls up, cat-like against his metal arm.
Steve eases the window back down to keep out a draft and pulls up a stool beside them, instead. He doubts there's anything that could get past the three of them, and wishes that he had something to read. Instead, he reaches for his uniform and starts repairing one of its tears, unhindered by the low light.]
[When Cass passes out, she passes out like a champ. Patrols have always been something she put every ounce of herself into, not willing to stop until she had no more energy or the sun came up. Here in Haven, constantly keeping the limited food supply in mind is also a factor. It would be stupid to push herself too hard and loose more energy than the small meals here can replenish, so she does her best to go home to her own bed sooner rather than later.
Tonight, she just doesn't make it all the way to her home. She finds a different home instead, one that's welcoming and warm and far more comfortable than her own empty bed.
She doesn't like to be alone and Bucky and Steve understand that. They don't want her to be alone either. The moment her head is resting on a metal pillow, she's out until Bucky wakes her up by speaking but even then she refuses to wake up completely. When she speaks, it's a muffled mumbling kind of thing.]
Mm hmm. Sun's coming soon. Just wanted... small nap, first...
[There's a small, tattered cardboard box of fresh, assorted berries left on the ledge of a roof that just so happens to be one of the typical paths Cass takes on her jaunts around Haven. It appears to have been left for her, so it would be a shame if it's ignored.]
[Well, it is food and she is Cass. It does seem a little odd to leave something so precisely placed, but again, it's Cass. She'll eat them.
She pauses on her patrol and pulls the cowl off, sitting on the edge of the roof and poking through the berries with her fingertips to find just the right one to eat first. Perfect chance for anyone who had been hoping to catch a Batgirl to show up.]
[It's only after she pops one berry in her mouth that he leaves the shadows he was hiding in to appear out of nowhere and hop up onto the roof. There's a pleased smile on his face as he settles down next to her, legs dangling off the edge of the roof.]
Wow Cass, what if they were drugged?
[Which is immediately refuted by him stealing a blueberry just because he can.]
I'll just enjoy the fact that someone could've pulled one on you just now.
[Cass is another he considered including in the group message, but he knows how much Bruce means to her, and that it would be so much better to do this in person because of how she processed information. If he could do anything to make this easier on her, he will, even though he knows she’ll be able to pick up things from his body language, things he doesn’t want to show when it’s more important to make sure people are okay and to not worry them.
But it doesn’t feel right not doing this in person, so he picks up the communicator again after he's spoken to Dick and Damian separately, talking quietly into it after scrolling to her picture.]
[Well that's... odd. He doesn't want her to see him but still gives her the option, and that means more to her than he's probably aware of, but the first thing on her mind is really how concerned she is for Tim. She can focus on how nice it is that he's being this open with her later.]
Yes. [The of course there is unsaid but very clear. Like she would ever say no.] Your roof or mine?
[He hopes this goes better than with the others. It should, right? This is Cass.]
Mine. See you in a bit.
[When she arrives he'll be waiting for her on the rooftop garden, idly studying the plants. To a random passerby it'll look like he's bored and passing the time, but Cass will see there's a lot on his mind and that he's feeling pretty damn tired.]
Free all day. [ Yeah, he's happy. He's not gonna bother to disguise it. ] Where's a good spot to do this thing? There's empty housing blocks, but I'm guessin' outdoors works better.
[Whenever Cass returns home, there's a plate of pie sitting on her bed. It's still warm, and there's a small, carved-wooden token of a bat to go along with it.]
[ Oh, look, it's Jason. His body language is a mix of anger and suppressed fear, and his hair's sticking up in a mess of sweaty almost-curls, like he's been running his hands through it compulsively. ]
Please tell me you're still here. I can't reach Steph or Tim. And you know it's bad when I try to talk to the replacement.
[If she had her choice, this would be a video in return. She'd rather hide the way she looks similarly frazzled, the lost look in her eyes, but it doesn't seem right when Jason started this by being open and honest with her. The least she can do is honor that.]
Still here. I don't think... that they are.
[She sounds hollow, which is fitting. That's about how she feels at the moment.]
[Let it be known that a Walker always remembers his debts. So here he is, repaying his debt for Ino's help with a message for Cass, since she's the crewmate that Allen feels he can trust the most with this:]
Cassandra-
Ino's birthday is on September 23rd! Maybe the crew can do something for her? Even just a card! I'm sure she'd appreciate it!
[Huh. If it were someone else, Cass might think that was a joke in poor taste, maybe, or just someone being rude for the sake of it. She did just tell essentially the entire fleet that can't read, after all.
But Allen isn't rude in that way, not from what she's seen in his body language. It must just be an honest mistake.]
[Yeah no that's definitely a weird question, and Cass thinks of Stephanie, of Brenda and Onyx and... yeah she would do the thing. Gender isn't really the thing that would hold her back, though.]
Yes, but... Wouldn't want to hurt them. I kind of, um... my job is violent.
[And she dies like, way too often. Someone being left behind and hurting because they got too close is something Cass has learned to worry about now that she's actually to a place in life where she likes being alive.
